“9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.”
When
we read the Bible we aren’t’ reading suggestions; God literally tells us how we
should be living our lives- In this passage “By living according to your [God’s]
word.” What does that look like and how can reading help us
keep our ways pure?
The Bible is filled with promises, wise
proverbs, and history, true and real stories. From these we get to learn from
the mistakes made in the past; we get to read the diaries of passed historians
chosen by God to write what He wanted them to- all scripture is God breathed.
The way I like to look at it is that the Bible is like a love letter from God.
When you seek the Lord with all of your heart, your ways start following
along the path of purity, that’s just part of it though. Actions are more than words, applying what
you read to your day can really be something awesome and uplifting and maybe
another pair of eyes will see that!
When this passage tells us to
hide God’s word in our hearts that doesn’t mean to keep it to yourself or for
yourself, God wants us to share His word with everyone. Keeping it hidden, in
this context means to remember it and look back on what you read, and apply it.
Have you ever heard the phrase “I know it
by heart!” well that’s basically it, to commit it to memory. This is a helpful reminder that keeps our
focus set on the path of purity.
Dear Lord,
Thank you so much for
everyone heart that put the Bible together. Thank you for their strong words of
encouragement, wisdom, and promises! I pray and seek for your fatherly guidance
to teach us how to live accordingly inside this blemished world. Please helps
us to take what we read and use it in our days and apply it to what we are
going through. Thank you so much for such a promising way to purity. Please let
us not stray from your command! We love you and praise you In Jesus’ name…
-Amen.
Mer †
